Icons for the Edges

Icons are religious artworks that follow specific conventions in their representations of saints. Icons for the Edges plays with the idea of icons but explores the edges of the world encapsulated by that term. Icons are traditionally visual art, but I first conceived of each piece as a musical "icon" before adding any visual elements. In almost every case, the inspiration for the accompanying visual artwork came from the music I composed about each person rather than from elements typically found in traditional iconographic representations. Most of the people represented are canonised saints, while Jesus is far more than a saint and no one would ever consider canonising Michael Jackson. And so, Icons for the Edges is a collection of musical and artistic representations of the impression each of these people has made on me and the person I hope to become through following their examples.
