I wrote Six Move-ments as a reimagined baroque dance suite. Each movement generally retains its traditional structure, but develops a character of its own, representing a different quirky guest at a hypothetical party. I particularly enjoyed this project because I got to compose it for the Trans-Pacific Trio, of which I am a member. There is not a lot of music written for clarinet, bassoon and piano trio, so being able to produce something playing to the strengths of our instruments and our members rather than having to adapt something originally for a different instrumentation was quite satisfying. Playing this piece brings me back to the ridiculous dance parties my siblings, parents, and I would have in our living room growing up. I hope you enjoy this romp as much as I do!
