Serial Sequel is the sequel to my previous experiment with serialism entitled Serial Series, written for bassoon quartet. Although I have always enjoyed writing contrapuntally, the fugue in Serial Series presented some special challenges I had never encountered before. After finishing Serial Series, I decided to continue exploring methods of familiarizing "serially composed" music through counterpoint, employing stylistic elements from pre-Baroque counterpoint such as rhythm and articulation patterns, and the unforgettable double-leading tone cadence. The piece, if played with the proper style and sensitivity, should feel like anachronistic dance music.
